A Word From Wayne
Hello again,
For
those of you that could not make it to this past month’s car clinic, you
missed out on a good time. We talked about performance. We covered a lot,
but everyone seemed real interested in distributors and timing. We had lots
of questions in that area. We had lots of different kinds of intake
manifolds and heads lying out to see some differences. And speaking of
differences, we had a detailed small block sitting next to a detailed big
block so people could compare and contrast. And as usual, we had some really
good food to go along with a lot of neat cars that showed up. We ended up
with 47 people from 4 different car clubs.
Our upcoming events
section has to be all about our annual Spring Fling Car Show.
I hope all of you have penciled in your calendars for Saturday, April
12th. We are having it
again at the
Don’t forget that this is “our” show. It is our only fundraiser, so don’t be shy; get out there and let everybody know about it and convince some people to enter their car. Let’s all show up and show your support.
Also, let’s all be reminded our next month’s meeting will be held on Monday,
April 14 at AutoWay Ford. BUT the start time will be moved up to
7:00 pm, due to the fact that we will have a short business
meeting and then we will hop in our cars and cruise over to the Sonic
Drive-In Restaurant in Pinellas Park (70th Ave. and 49th
Street North) for dinner and the social part of our evening. So, bring your
car and your appetite and I hope to see you there.
Remember:
Car Show, Car Show,
Car Show!!!
Thanks,
Wayne Farnham

Meeting Minutes
March 10, 2008
The meeting was called to order by President Wayne Farnham at 7:40 p.m.
We had quite a large turnout for the meeting, some new faces and some faces we haven’t seen in a while. So we went around the room and everyone introduced themselves.
We were lucky to have one of our own club members as our speaker. Tom O’Connor has 30 something years of air conditioning experience with Florida Progress. He gave us some tips on getting the most out of our A/C units. He went over filters, thermostats, ductwork, etc. We also had a question and answer session with many club members asking some good questions of Tom.
Don’t forget to come out to the Spring Fling Mustang and Ford Show on April 12. I hope every club member has registered their car in the show. We need everyone’s participation to make this a successful show. If you haven’t registered yet, come out Saturday and sign up at the show. You can also bring any raffle items you have and give them to Connie O’Connor on the day of the show.
Many of us will be arriving at the show site around 7:00 a.m. If any member wants to come out and help, it would be very much appreciated.
See you all on Saturday, April 12.
Respectfully submitted,
Steve Hansen
Secretary

Door Prize Donations Needed for SMC’s Spring Fling Show
Our club’s show is scheduled for April 12, 2008, and as in years past, we depend on members to help with door prizes for the show. Therefore, please donate any new holiday, birthday, anniversary, door prize, etc. gift that you cannot use or would like someone else to have. Talk to your boss, your local store, business associate, or your friends to donate a gift or even some money. Have them include their business card and we will attach it to the donated gift. If you are able, you can donate $10 (or more) to the club to buy door prizes. You can mail your check to Steve Hansen at 14340 84th Terrace N., Seminole, FL 33776 or Connie O'Connor at 10434 112th Way N., Largo, FL 33778 or you may bring money or a gift the day of the show. If you would like to arrange to drop off a gift at some other time, please call Connie (727-397-7891) or Steve (727-397-0100). As always, we’d like to thank you for all of your generous support in the past and your anticipated support for this year's event.

Fantasy of Flight
On Saturday, April 5th, Fantasy of Flight and the Imperial Mustangs of Polk County hosted their 11th Annual “Mustangs and Mustangs . . . Legends Havin Fun” Show. Over 400 Mustangs were on display along with beautifully restored P-51 Mustang fighters from World War II. This year’s show had each participant’s vehicle photographed next to one of the P-51’s. Along with the many generations of Mustangs displayed there were lots of other interesting “Ford’s” including a tractor, Model A, and even an MGA that was Ford Powered.
Despite predictions
of rain and at times some dark clouds, the weather was cooperative. Cars
were judged and Best of Show and Awards of Excellence were presented for
each class. The 2005 – 2008 Mustangs received there awards based on popular
votes. There were a number of vendors and those who dared could purchase
rides in vintage airplanes. The display of vintage airplanes was impressive
and pilots, including owner Kermit Weeks, entertained the crowd with some
flying acrobatics in these older planes.
SMC Members who attended (that I saw) included Jim and Kathy Robison, Jim and Lucy Carroll, Stephen and Marie Dicenso, Joe and June Brend, Debbie Flanagan-Ouano, John and Helen Watjen, and Bill, Judy, and Lauren Dellert. (There may have been others, sorry if I didn’t see you or forgot you.) Everyone seemed to have a great time and my compliments to the Imperial Club for once again hosting a great show.

For Your Information
by Jim Robison
Ø A big “shout-out” to Wayne and his crew at Restomod Plus for a great car clinic. The presentation was genuinely informative and entertaining. Wayne’s style and dialogue were truly a pleasure for all who attended.
Ø In reference to last month’s list of the Top Ten T.V. cars...
The Beverly Hillbillies’ Jalopy, built by George Barris, sold at the February 2008 Scottsdale, AZ Barrett Jackson Auction for $125,000, plus 10% commission. I guess it wasn’t just “crude oil” that made Jed Clampett rich!
Ø Newly released DVD I Am Legend starring Will Smith (a remake of Omega Man with Charlton Heston, circa 1970s) features a 2008 SVT Shelby GT 500 in the opening scenes. The movie begins with the hero and his dog chasing down a herd of deer on a vacant street of New York City.
Ø Just read in the March 27, 2008 issue of the St. Petersburg Times that Ford Motor Company has completed the sale of Jaguar and Land Rover to India’s biggest truck maker, Tata Motors Ld. for $2.3 billion. Ford acquired Jaguar in 1989, Volvo in 1999 and Land Rover in 2000. Aston Martin was purchased in 1987. Ford sold off Aston Martin last year, but they opted to keep Volvo and try to make it profitable. In 1998 Tata Motors introduced the Indica, its first fully Indian car. In 2004, Tata Motors Ltd. acquired the truck division of South Korea’s Daewoo Motors.
Ø Have you had a chance to check out the interior trim kit on the Roush Mustangs? Kathie and I did when we visited the Jack Roush Visitation Car Show at Brandon Ford last November. The carbon filter trim was absolutely “sexy”. Kathie was hooked the minute she saw it! We just had the manufacturer of these kits install a full carbon fiber trim package in our car. The effect is amazing!
Gemico Decorative Trim Company, located in St. Petersburg, supply Roush, Saleen, Steeda and many others. They have generously authorized us to offer SMC members a 20% discount on any style or material they offer. We will have brochures, samples, and pricing for you to take a look. The selection is amazing. The Gemico people were helpful and friendly from the beginning. They are car people, “big-time” !
Pony Tales is the Suncoast Mustang Club’s newsletter. The newsletter’s function is to keep members informed of what is going on in the club and other Mustang-related subjects. The newsletter is assembled by the Editor, but by definition, an editor is supposed to prepare other persons’ writings for publication. We are grateful to the members who have provided articles in the past, but we continue to ask for articles from YOU. “Auto-biographies”, technical information or anything else you’d like to share with club members is greatly appreciated. Please mail, e-mail the editor, or give your articles to Bill Dellert at meetings or events. THANKS!!!
