A Word From Wayne

Hello again.
The main topic this month has to be our upcoming Christmas party. It will be held at the Mainland’s Clubhouse #1 (9650 Mainland’s Blvd W. Pinellas Park). It will be on Saturday, December 8th at 6:00. Mike’s Pizza and Deli will be catering. For those of you who have never been to one of these parties, the food is outstanding with shrimp cocktail and bruschetta for appetizers, Chicken Sonoma, wings, pulled pork, and baked ziti as entrees. There will be coffee, tea and soft drinks for refreshments, with pies and tiramisu for dessert. If you leave hungry, it’s your own fault. Also, we have unique gift exchange games. Everybody should bring a gift under $15, one per person. To top it all off, we usually have another game or two, with gift prizes, cash prizes and even a few surprise prizes. I hear that these parties are becoming such global events that people are flying in from Europe just to take part in the festivities. Please RSVP to Bill Dellert at bdellert3@hotmail.com or 727-343-4187 to let us know how many people are coming. The cost is $10.00 per person and yes it is okay to bring kids (half price) and we always welcome friends and family.
Shifting gears to a new subject, a group from our club got together and went to visit club member Orrie Engle on Saturday, November 24th at the nursing home. We all drove our Mustangs and had our own little car show in the parking lot for Orrie. We all sat around talking and visiting with Orrie and Betty on the front lawn overlooking the cars. Orrie is confined to a wheelchair after suffering a small stroke. He is getting slower with his speech, but he still called everybody by name, spoke with all the people and he still just loves to see all the cars. Betty is just amazing with how she is holding up through all of this. She spends all day, every day, at the nursing home with Orrie. It was great to see them again and as Betty said in her thank you card, it means so much to them to see friends.
Shifting gears again, I know that Friday, December 14th is on everyone’s social calendar because it is the date for our annual “Toys for Tots” toy drive. Each year we get together with our friends “Randy and Dave” from WQYK 99.5, at Brandon’s Westfield Mall. They hold a marathon toy drive at the “Toys ‘R Us” store in the mall parking lot. We get as many people as we can, and we caravan in our Mustangs over to the mall and donate as many gifts as we can. Every year it seems to get bigger and bigger. We usually get interviewed on live radio, which is a boost for the club. We have challenged other car clubs to get involved, and they have responded with lots of gifts too. It’s great to see car people of all kinds get involved, because it is such a great cause. How many of you can even imagine what it would be like for a young kid not to get a gift at Christmas? So if you want to get involved, here is our schedule:
5:00 -5:15 pm: Meet at RestoMod Plus (13730 B 50th Way N)
5:15 pm: Leave RestoMod Plus and head towards the Gandy Bridge, then to the Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway, get off at the I-75 exit, merge onto Hwy 60 going east, and then right into the Westfield Mall, then right to the Toys ‘R Us.
6:15 pm: Assemble cars in front of the Toys ‘R Us for a display and pictures, then unload all the toys. Hang out with the gang from WQYK radio.
7:15 pm: Head over to Smokey Bones BBQ, right there in the mall parking lot. Eat dinner/Have good time.
This year, we are also told that a few people from the Tampa Mustang Club and the SVT club are going to participate with us. Let’s all show up, bring a gift, and show your Christmas Spirit!! The Suncoast Mustang Club is donating a few hundred dollars worth of gifts and toys, from the money made at our last car show. Bring money for the tolls on the Expressway. Bring a friend if you want. It would be nice to bring your car, but if for some reason you can’t, come anyway. There may be someone that you can ride with. In past years we have had a great amount of toys to donate and we are looking to make it even better. This event gets a lot of attention and its getting bigger each year. The club gets noticed and it gets other to get involved. This caravan inspires others to donate as well. Please come out and donate to this wonderful cause.
I hope to see everybody at these upcoming events.

Meeting Minutes: November 12, 2007
Meeting was called to order by President Wayne Farnham at 7:40 pm.
Our Toys for Tots toy drive will be on Dec. 14th. We will meet at Wayne’s shop at 5:00 pm and caravan to Brandon.
Jim and Lucy Carroll will give a presentation of their most recent “Pony Drive” experiences at the January meeting to be held at AutoWay Ford.
It’s that time of year when we need people to step up and become more active in the club by becoming Officers or being on the Board of Directors.
I’m sure we’ll all have a great time at the Christmas party on Dec. 8th at the Mainlands. See you all there.
