   A Word From Wayne

Text Box:
Hello again.
Well, we seem to have pulled off another great Car Show. We should all thank Steve Hansen for being the Show Chairman of our Spring Fling Show.  He is the one that put all the right people in all the right places, so that everyone’s efforts came together and produced a fantastic event.  I do also want to mention some of the other people, (but I am afraid I will forget someone), who helped out. How about Scott Stees, and his  parking committee, who figured out the layout for the event, and saw to it that everyone was able to get into the show and park with no long lines or delays, and if people wanted to park in a group, it was not a problem.  Thanks also go to Bill Dellert and all those who helped with registration.  They saw to it that everyone’s paperwork was ready when they got there and his group also got day of show people sorted out, and above all they handled all the money.  What would it all mean without John Moody and all those who helped get these cars judged?  They tirelessly, moved about the show and judged all the cars while everyone else was busy talking and having a good time.  His group worked right up till trophy time, getting all the data sorted.  We definitely have to give a shout out to Connie O’ Connor and Kathy Hansen and their goody bag and door prize committee.  Nobody could ever guess all the time and effort that it takes to go out and gather all those prizes and donations, let alone organize them the way they and their group did.  Then during the show they go out and get people to buy raffle tickets for the big give-away. We also must thank all the vendors for coming out and hopefully it was beneficial to them to be there.  I also want to thank Skeeter’s Smokehouse Barbeque for some great food, Florida Blood Services, for being there to the last drop.  Thanks to Michael Ross for being the disc jockey.  Thanks also must go out to our Suncoast Mustang Club

Board of Directors, for setting down and laying the foundation for this entire show.  Finally, thanks to all those not mentioned who donated money, time, prizes, or whatever you did to help make this show a success.  Thanks to all that make this club what it is… great!!
On a personal note, I want to thank Jim and Lucy Carroll for working behind the scenes to help me do everything I do.  Without them I would not be able president of this club.  They are always there when I need someone to do this or that.  From sitting down with the people at City Hall to plan this whole thing, to cleaning the toilets after the last person leaves the show, they are always there to lend a hand, and for that, words will never say enough. Some of us from the club participated in an unusual event that came up at the last minute a few weeks ago.  We were approached by the folks at Kruse Auctions, and asked to help out with their event.  We took turns in small groups and helped park cars, and line them up for the actual auction, and then we drove them through the auction.  While it did turn out at times to be real work, I think most that helped out had a good time and we did learn a little about the behind the scenes goings on of an auction.  For our help, the Kruse group donated $750 to our club.  So that made it even more fun.  Thanks again to all those who did volunteer on such short notice.
Upcoming events include this Monday’s meeting at Autoway ford at 7:30pm.  Also for those involved there will be another Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, May 22 at 7:00pm at Mikes Pizza.   I look forward to seeing everyone at these upcoming events.

Meeting Minutes April 9, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 7:45pm by President Wayne Farnham at Autoway Ford.

Alan Rice informed club members that that Orrie Engle had been in the hospital.  He has since been released to a rehabilitation center.  Hopefully, he will soon be back home in familiar surroundings.  A motion was made to send cards to him since no flowers are permitted in this facility.

The main topic of the meeting was once again the April 28th Car Show.   Head judge John Moody went over the items the judges will be looking at when judging the pre-registered cars at the show.  Parking guru Scott Stees had a map of Town Square Plaza Park and figured out how he wanted to park the cars at the show.  As of now we have approximately 55 cars entered for the show, hopefully we will get a few more.  I hope to see everyone at the show and let's pray for great weather.

Respectfully submitted,

Steve Hansen

Show News

Fantasy of Flight – Saturday, April 14th

There were approximately 600 cars on hand and once more, this show lived up to its reputation.  A picture of each car was takein in front of a P-51 (Mustang) World War II Fighter Plane.  The start of the show had to be delayed because the field was shrouded in fog and the pictures couldn’t be taken.  Once it cleared up it turned out to be a nice day.

There were all day flyovers with pilots showing off their vintage aircraft.  Besides looking at all the cars, there were the outside and hangar exhibits and the museum and the tours that were available.  All in all everyone had a great day.

The SMC members who attended were Sherm and Jane Bliss, Joe Brend, Jim Carroll, the Lockwoods, Della Overholt, Jim and Kathie Robison (who won a trophy in their class) and John and me.  If I’ve left anyone out I’m sorry.  There were so many people it was difficult to know whether there were more SMC members that we didn’t see there.

Spring Fling Show – April 28th

After going “showless” for almost 2 years, the Suncoast Mustang Club put on a really great show to end the month of April.  Over 100 cars were on display as people came from all over Central and South Florida to be part of this event.  In addition to the exhibition of great looking cars, there was entertainment provided by DJ Michael Ross and a first for our club’s show, the “Redneck Olympics” hosted by our own “Redneck President” Wayne.  It was quite a sight to see people young and old showing off their skills at using a two-man (opps sorry – two-person) saw in a log cutting contest.  Other events included Wayne’s version of “lawn” bowling, wheelbarrow races, and the NASCAR wanna-be tire changing contest.  Lots of fun for both contestants and spectators.

Town Square Plaza Park in Pinellas Park was a great location for the show and the weather was really nice.  At the end of the show, lots and lots of loot was given out as the raffle tickets were drawn.  Awards for 1st , 2nd, and 3rd place in the various classes ended the day.  Overall, it seemed that everyone attending had a great time and first time Show Chairman, Steve Hansen also with so many helpers made everyone feel welcome.  It looks like SMC may finally have an annual  show once again and based on the success of this year’s show, they will only get better.
