Meeting Minutes April 9, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 7:45pm by President Wayne Farnham at Autoway Ford.
Alan Rice informed club members that
that Orrie Engle had been in the hospital. He has since been
released to a rehabilitation center. Hopefully, he will soon be back home in
familiar surroundings. A motion was made to send cards to him since no flowers
are permitted in this facility.
The main topic of the meeting was once again the April 28th Car Show. Head
judge John Moody went over the items the judges will be looking at when judging
the pre-registered cars at the show. Parking guru Scott Stees had a map of Town
Square Plaza Park and figured out how he wanted to park the cars at the show.
As of now we have approximately 55 cars entered for the show, hopefully we will
get a few more. I hope to see everyone at the show and let's pray for great
weather.
Respectfully submitted,
Steve Hansen

Show News
Fantasy of Flight – Saturday, April 14th
There were approximately 600 cars on hand and once more, this show lived up to its reputation. A picture of each car was takein in front of a P-51 (Mustang) World War II Fighter Plane. The start of the show had to be delayed because the field was shrouded in fog and the pictures couldn’t be taken. Once it cleared up it turned out to be a nice day.
There were all day flyovers with pilots showing off their vintage aircraft. Besides looking at all the cars, there were the outside and hangar exhibits and the museum and the tours that were available. All in all everyone had a great day.
The SMC members who attended were Sherm and Jane Bliss, Joe Brend, Jim Carroll, the Lockwoods, Della Overholt, Jim and Kathie Robison (who won a trophy in their class) and John and me. If I’ve left anyone out I’m sorry. There were so many people it was difficult to know whether there were more SMC members that we didn’t see there.

Spring Fling Show – April 28th
After going “showless” for almost 2 years, the Suncoast Mustang Club put on a really great show to end the month of April. Over 100 cars were on display as people came from all over Central and South Florida to be part of this event. In addition to the exhibition of great looking cars, there was entertainment provided by DJ Michael Ross and a first for our club’s show, the “Redneck Olympics” hosted by our own “Redneck President” Wayne. It was quite a sight to see people young and old showing off their skills at using a two-man (opps sorry – two-person) saw in a log cutting contest. Other events included Wayne’s version of “lawn” bowling, wheelbarrow races, and the NASCAR wanna-be tire changing contest. Lots of fun for both contestants and spectators.
Town Square Plaza Park in Pinellas Park was a great location for the show and the weather was really nice. At the end of the show, lots and lots of loot was given out as the raffle tickets were drawn. Awards for 1st , 2nd, and 3rd place in the various classes ended the day. Overall, it seemed that everyone attending had a great time and first time Show Chairman, Steve Hansen also with so many helpers made everyone feel welcome. It looks like SMC may finally have an annual show once again and based on the success of this year’s show, they will only get better.
