Suncoast Mustang Club
Meeting Minutes: October 8, 2007
The club members met at Quaker Steak and Lube for a dinner meeting at 7:00 p.m.
There was a turnout of approximately 25 people and everyone had good food and a good time.
We had a discussion on whether we should have our car show as a stand-alone affair or in conjunction with the Pinellas Park BBQ Fest. At first glance, we thought the BBQ Fest might be the best option because we would get publicity, exposure to potential new members, no DJ cost, etc. The negatives of having it with the BBQ Fest were that we were limited to a small portion of the park, giving us a limited amount of car show space and there could be an admission cost that we would have no control over. After some debate, we thought it might be better if we had the show on our own like we did last year. We had the entire park to ourselves, thereby not limiting us to a set amount of cars, no admission for spectators, we don’t have to share the stage with anyone else, plus we had such a good turnout at last year’s show, why not do it the same way for this show. Now all we have to do is settle on a date.
November 18, 2007 is Super Sunday in Bradenton.
Toys for Tots coming up December 14th
December 8, 2007 will be our Holiday Dinner Meeting

Car Show at MOSI a Success!
The Mustang Club of Tampa put on another great show on Saturday, October 13; in spite of the intense heat! The first 100 entrants received a show T-shirt and passes to the museum. Many participants enjoyed the museum exhibits and an opportunity to escape the high tempertures.
It was great to see so many beautiful cars. Lately, it seems shows have more new cars than old.
As usual, Bobby Sox did a fabulous job as DJ. There were many raffles items, door prizes and a large “fifty-fifty” for everyone to enjoy.

AUTObiography
by Mike Lemons
“THE K-CODE PORCH”
The year was 1966, the location was Raleigh, NC, which had a real resemblance to Andy and Opie’s “Mayberry.” But at the age of six, I was more interested in a new program called” Batman.” My neighbor friend and I would use clothes pins to attach towels on our backs and jump off of his porch. We were, of course, Batman & Robin. Robin’s father was a volunteer fireman. In 1966 that meant he would drive his personal vehicle to an emergency. This is where it gets interesting…he purchased a new ’66 Wimbledon white K-code fastback with a pony interior. He mounted a red flashing light on the dashboard and backed this car into his carport. He was ready for any and all fire rescue emergencies. He listened to his emergency radio in the house and when it was time he would fire up that monster and tear down the long driveway and up the road…4-speed You know!!!
That’s why Batman & Robin hung out at the “K-code porch”. I thought driving that car as fast as you want, legally, was just way too cool!! It’s interesting that Robin’s father pampered his car, (his obvious pride & joy), until it was time to stomp on it in the name of fire rescue. I always figured it was more about driving a fast Mustang than the fire department. What do you think??? Hint…he always had a big smile on his face driving to the fire. Hmmmmm.
I was, of course, bitten badly by the ”Mustang bug!” Over the years, I have been blessed with many performance cars. The furthest I have strayed from the Mustang lineup was a 429 Cyclone and a 428 Eliminator. My Mustang history includes lots of my favorite colors like Royal Maroon, Gulfstream Aqua and Acapulco Blue. They also included some of my less favorite colors like Grabber Yellow and Grabber Lime Green Boss 351’s.
It’s amazing since the age of six, how the severe impact of the flashing red light, spinning wheels & smoking Mustang tires, still continues to influence my life today. It’s a miracle I didn’t become a fireman!!!
