    A Word From Wayne

                                                                                                                      WAYNE FARNHAM, PRESIDENT

Hello again. This past month’s meeting was held at Autoway Ford (2525 - 34th St. N.).  We had our usual business meeting, and then we had a discussion about different cleaning and waxing techniques and some hands-on demonstrations of things, such as how to use a clay bar to remove dirt and grime from a paint job.  I hope everyone learned a little something from that.

For this month’s meeting we will meet at Autoway Ford and then instead of refreshments, we will all hop in our cars and cruise over to the Sonic at 49th St. & 78th Ave. N. in Pinellas Park. The last time we did this we had an excellent turnout and Sonic gave us a great discount, so everyone bring your car and an appetite and we should have a great time.

Also coming up this month, Saturday, October 14th is the Mustang Club of Tampa’s annual show at MOSI.  They usually get over 200 cars and everyone that enters a car gets 2 free tickets to MOSI. I hope to see you there. For anyone who wants to caravan over to MOSI together, e-mail me as I will be leaving Restomod Plus at 7:45 A.M.

Also, don’t forget to mark your calendars for our big picnic at Philippe Park on Saturday, November 11th, from 11 A.M. till??We will have food, drinks, and games. More info about that will be discussed at the meeting.

It’s almost time again for our annual Toys for Tots drive, more information to follow in next month’s newsletter.

Hope to see you at our next meeting.

Wayne Farnham

The Suncoast Mustang Club met on Monday, September 11, 2006, at Autoway Ford in St. Petersburg.  Meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM by President Wayne Farnham.

Wayne welcomed everyone to the meeting.  Visitors Jeff, his wife Nicole and their two year old daughter, Haley, were introduced.  Jeff is in the Coast Guard,

they are new to this area from Michigan.  They have a 1984 Hatchback.

It was good to have Orrie and Betty Engle at the meeting.  Orrie brought in several automotive books that he offered free to anyone interested.

Old Business:

Wayne mentioned the August meeting and the trivia game that was played.  Bill Dellert said we would do another trivia game at our next dinner meeting.

Helen and John Watjen gave a report on the Birmingham Mustang Show that they attended Labor Day weekend.  Helen said it was very hot there.  There were approximately

1200 cars,  not very many vendors.  Helen and John rode around the race track in their Mustang going 35 miles an hour.  Lucy and Jim Carroll rented a Hertz

Mustang and drove it to the show.  Joe and June Brend also attended from our club.

Bill  Dellert apologized for having the "prototype" of the newsletter sent out.  He accidentally picked up the wrong one and took it to be copied, leaving the finished one at home.

Bill and Judy ask that anyone having any articles or stories they would like to have in the newsletter, please send to them.  Connie suggested that Mona Edwards put

something in the newsletter about her monogram business.  Mona does excellent work and has made many club shirts for our members.

New Business:

Next month's meeting will be held on Monday, October 9th.  We will first meet at Autoway Ford in St. Petersburg at 7:00 PM for a very brief meeting and

then we will caravan to Sonic Drive Inn located on 49th Street North just north of Park Blvd.

October 14th is the MOSI show in Tampa.  They usually have about 300 cars there and it is a great show.

October 21st is a car show at Mirror Lake in Lakeland.  John and Helen Watjen always go to this show and they enjoy it very much.  There are all types of cars there with

 a section just for Mustangs.

November 11th we will have our club picnic at Philippe Park in Safety Harbor.  It will start at 11AM until 5PM.  More information to follow.

At 8:00 PM we had a break with refreshments provided by Ron Dring and Tom and Connie O'Connor.  Connie also collected for the 50/50 drawing.  After break time

we had the drawing and Sue Clarke won $22.00.  We also gave away some other semi-valuable prizes.

At 8:25 PM Wayne gave a great presentation on washing and waxing your car.  It was very informative and everyone enjoyed the presentation.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Jane Bliss, Secretary

MCA 30th Anniversary – Birmingham, Alabama

Approximately 1200 Mustangs arrived for the Labor Day weekend at Barber Motorsports Park.  This is a beautiful facility surrounded by hills, which made it difficult to enjoy the show.  We had to walk up and down three levels of parking spaces under very warm conditions and no shade.

A highlight of the weekend was the opportunity to drive two laps around the track, which is a road course of dips and turns.  The track was busy Friday and Saturday with people racing their Mustangs, but Sunday it was our turn at a speed of a whopping 35 mph.  It was a very pleasant and awesome sight to see a parade of so many great Mustangs.

It was “old home” week for us as we met many people that we only see at the large shows.  People from all over the USA and seven foreign countries attended.

SMC members, besides John and me, were Jim and Lucy Carroll (who drove a rented Hertz Shelby on the Pony Trail) and Joe and June Brend.

SPOTLIGHT ON  OUR  MEMBERS

Welcome new members Jeff and Nicole Blackmore.

Jeff shares a brief biography with us below:

As you now know, my name is Jeff and I was born on August 29, 1983 in Frankfurt, Germany.  My father Tim was in the army and met my mother Petra who was born and raised in Hessen, Germany.  After I was born we moved to El Paso, Texas and lived there for about 3 years.  When my father decided to leave the Army we moved back to his home town East Tawas, Michigan.  I lived there for about 16 years, and graduated from Tawas Area High School on June of 2002.  When I was 17, I met Nicole.  Nicole and her family moved to East Tawas in 2001 and opened a boat store.  Her brother, Paul went with me to high school and I met her through her brother.  Since then, Nicole and I have been together.  On December 17, 2002 Nicole and I got married.  Nicole and I have been together now for almost 4 years and we have a sweet 2 year old daughter named Hailey.  Shortly after getting married, I joined the Coast Guard and went to basic training in January of 03.   I graduated basic training in March of 03 and was stationed in Two Rivers, Wisconsin.   After living in Wisconsin for 1 year, I was transferred to the Coast Guard Air Station in Clearwater, where I was in the aviation program.  After a few short months I decided that aviation wasn't for me.  When I was separated from the Airman program I was stationed with my current unit, USCGC RESOLUTE.

Now about the car… I have always been a Mustang kid since I have known what a car is.  I have only had the pleasure of owning two.  My first one was a 2001 that I bought coming out of boot camp.  My current one is a 1984 Fox that I love.  Right now it has an Edlebrock performer RPM intake with a Holley 650 double pumper carb.  It has a mild Crane cam.  The exhaust has been completely changed, with Headman Headers, into a crossover pipe feeding into 2 Flowmaster 40 Series mufflers.  The suspension has been changed a little.  It has   Race Craft springs that lowered it about 2 inches.  Some of my future plans are to put an aluminum racing wheel on it from Weld.  Also I want to put a set of Ford drag racing springs to help my launch.  My major project is the motor.   I would love to put in a 347 with a set of nice heads, but as we all know it always comes done to the all mighty dollar.  That is basically my story.  If anyone has sea stories I love to here them and I also love to tell them.   I wish everybody FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWINGS SEAS, and hope to see every one soon.

The Suncoast Mustang Club would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest members, Terry and Kelly Worthington.
